Inside PJH | Week 1.4

The Lead

Three weeks in, it really feels like PJH is hitting its stride. Routines are getting clearer, transitions are getting smoother, and this building is starting to feel less like a new school we’re figuring out and more like our school.

TL;DR

  • Show Up: A quick dress-code reminder on shorts and leggings.

  • Do Your Work: Progress reports go out Tuesday. Students, remember: I’m in charge of me. Check the WAGs to see what’s happening in class.

  • Be Kind: We’re seeing some pretty great “you can sit with us” moments in the cafeteria.

  • 1% Better: Students have already logged 44 completed books and 11,031 pages.

  • Looking Ahead: Volleyball at Poolville Monday, football at Godley Thursday, cross country Saturday, then no school Monday for Labor Day.

Show Up

A quick proactive dress-code reminder while it is still approximately 147 degrees outside: Make sure shorts are long enough to meet the dress code (fingertip length). If you’re wearing leggings, your shirt needs to cover the top of the inseam in both the front and the back. We’d much rather families help us catch these things before students get to school than have them become an issue once they’re here. Thank you for helping students show up ready for the day.

Do Your Work

Progress reports go out on Tuesday. Take a look at them with your student and remember what we’ve been saying since Day 1: I’m in charge of me. Check the WAGs each week so you know what’s happening in class and what’s coming next.

Be Kind

I’ve seen several little “you can sit with us” moments in the cafeteria lately. Kids noticing someone who needs a place to sit, making room, inviting someone over, or simply making sure another student doesn’t have to figure out junior high alone. That’s Rule #3. I’ll add something else: every conversation we’ve had with parents has been full of encouragement, patience, and gratitude. We have plenty to keep improving, but it is hard not to be grateful for the people we get to do school with. This is the best community on Earth.

1% Better

We started tracking completed books this week, and students have already logged 44 books and 11,031 pages. Twenty minutes of reading every day is starting to not feel like much, and that’s kind of the point! Here’s the Off the Record form in case there’s anything you think I need to know.
